Non- precious alloys (Base-Metals):

Base- metal alloys are defined as having less than 25% by weight of noble metal with no requirements for gold. The nickel-base alloys comprise the major class of these alloys (e.g. Ni-Cr Alloy).                      

The modulus of elasticity of base metal alloys is considerably greater than that of noble alloys ; thus fixed prostheses will not be easily flexed, thus preventing the fracture of the porcelain component
